Instructional Classes FAQ

Unlike Group Fitness Classes, Instructional Classes are taught in a sequential process where students will build on skills and lessons from previous classes.  Participants are encouraged to read the description for each class as there may be skill or experience prerequisites. Though attendance is not required for all class sessions, attendance is highly encouraged. 

Q: Do I need to be a PWG Member?

A: Yes, to register for an Instructional Classes, participants must be a current PWG member at the time of registration and throughout the duration of the course. 

Q: Where can I find out what classes are offered and how to do I register?

Q: When does registration for Instructional Classes open?

A: Each class will have different registration timelines. If you wish to be notified of when registrations open, please subscribe to Yale Campus Recreation emails. Typically Fall and Spring registration will open early in the semester. Summer registration will open in May. 
 

Q: Are there free trials for Instructional Classes?

A: No, there are no free trial for Instructional Classes. If you enroll in a class and decide you do not wish to continue, the Class Cancellation & Refund Policy would be applied.

Q: I registered for a class and can no longer continue due to a medical issue, is there a refund?

A:  If you enroll in a class and cannot continue, the Class Cancellation & Refund Policy would be applied.

If you would like to register for an Instructional Class, you will need an active PWG Membership. 

If you have a PWG Membership and would like to take a Group Fitness Class, then you will need to purchase a Group Fitness Class Pass.

Fitness & Wellness Program Guidelines & Policies

  • Participants are highly encouraged to arrive to class/session on time.  Due to the importance of a sufficient warm-up period, participants who arrive after the warm-up period may not be permitted entry to class. 
  • Participants are highly encouraged to stay for the entire duration of the class to ensure participation in the proper cool-down phase.
  • The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to adjust the schedule, class formats and instructors when necessary.
  • Participants must silence cell phones and may not use cell phones during class.
  • The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to deny/cancel enrollment/participation based on guidelines for Discipline, Suspension, and Loss of Privileges
  • Appropriate athletic footwear/attire is required at all times. Appropriate footwear is closed-toe, closed-heel non-marking athletic shoes. Sneakers are strongly recommended. Exceptions may be made for certain programs/activities. Hard-soled, closed-toe athletic shoes or cycling shoes are recommended for all spinning and indoor cycling classes.  Shoe removal may be appropriate in Yoga and/or certain dance formats, at the instructor’s discretion.

  • Members are encouraged to register online via MyRec.
  • In-person registration can be accommodated by scheduling an appointment with Membership Services.
  • Once registration is opened it will remain open until maximum class enrollments are reached. 
  • Maximum enrollment for each class is dependent on what equipment will be utilized for the class and to provide an effective environment for participants and the instructor.

Within the 10 days of the first scheduled class participants can cancel their registration and will be provided a prorated refund for the remaining classes.

After the 10th day of the first scheduled class participants may request to cancel their registration with a prorated refund for the remaining classes with documentation from their healthcare provider stating that they can no longer participate in the class. Refunds are not provided without documentation from their healthcare provider. 

Each semester there will be a designated week for make-up classes which were rescheduled due to inclement weather or instructor cancellation.  Refunds will not be provided for classes which are rescheduled.  If classes are canceled and cannot be rescheduled, participants will receive a pro-rated refund based on the number of classes which were canceled. 

Within the 10 days of purchase of the Group Fitness Class Pass, members can cancel their registration and will be provided a prorated refund. 

After the 10th day of purchase of the Group Fitness Class Pass, members may request a prorated refund with documentation from their healthcare provider stating that they can no longer participate in Group Fitness Classes. Refunds are not provided without documentation from their healthcare provider.

Participants will not be refunded for classes canceled due to inclement weather or instructor cancellation unless the total number of canceled classes for the semester/summer exceeds 25% of the total number of scheduled classes.  In event of this scenario participants will receive a prorated refund. 

Refunds

  • Sessions must be redeemed within 180 days from the date of purchase. Unused sessions will not be refunded. 
  • If a client no longer wishes to continue with their Personal Trainer, they will be refunded for any remaining unused sessions. A $25 cancellation fee will be applied to their refund.

Session Cancellations

  • Session schedules will be developed by the client and Personal Trainer.
  • If a client needs to cancel a scheduled session they must provide notice at least 24 hours in advance, in writing, to their assigned Personal Trainer. Sessions canceled less than 24-hours in advance will not be refunded. (Decisions to provide refunds for emergency cancellations will be made by the Department of Campus Recreation on a case-by-case basis.)
  • If the Personal Trainer needs to cancel a scheduled session, they will provide their client notice at least 24 hours in advance. The Department of Campus Recreation may refund or provide additional sessions at no additional cost to sessions canceled within 24 hours.  

In the event of an Emergency or Extended Closure, the Department of Campus Recreation will base refunds on the guidelines outlined in the PWG Emergency and Extended Closures.
